Sometimes the clients you help the most, instead of broadcasting you to everyone, they keep you a secret! Referral business can be inconsistent, unreliable and it is a mistake to think you can build a thriving practice from it from the start. Don't get me wrong, word of mouth is wonderful, but don't be under the illusion that it's easy!
The other problem with that mindset is this. We're with our clients for, say, 1 hr a week? It doesn't matter HOW good you are, you can't control what your client does with the other 167 hours of that week.
Quit thinking it's your fault!
OK, so what's the solution.
Well, the first thing to realise is - you are in business. If you are truly serious and committed about getting your message out there, then you have to be serious and committed to your business. Now, that doesn't mean you can't have fun! What I mean by serious is - take it seriously, be passionate, truly get excited about what you do.
Done that? You are serious, you are passionate and love what you do. OK. Great. But did you realise that you're not really in the health business? No! More than likely you are working alone, am I right? Well that means you are really in the marketing business. In the business of getting clients for the service you offer.
The reality is that no business you can't survive without customers.
Let's go back to that mindset - "if I'm a good practitioner, then I'll be a busy practitioner". So you seek the next course, the next new thing, and keep training to become "better". Believing that when you're better, then you'll attract those clients. All the while not focusing on what will make you a better practitioner.
